EAWR Advances FY26 Goals and Prepares for FY27 Planning

Last Updated 4/23/2026

East Alton Wood River Community High School District 14 continues to make steady progress on its 2025–2026 Strategic Plan priorities. Throughout the year, staff, students, and leadership teams have worked across multiple focus areas including student growth, professional collaboration, student engagement, school climate, and communication with families.

Several major initiatives have already been completed this year. MAP growth incentives were implemented following fall and winter testing to reinforce student ownership of academic progress. Professional Learning Community structures were strengthened through Opening Day workshops, Institute Day collaboration, and regular interdisciplinary and departmental PLC meetings. Academic intervention classes remained in place with ongoing monthly progress monitoring, ensuring support systems continue to respond to student needs.

Student engagement efforts also expanded significantly. Approximately half of EAWR students now participate in extracurricular activities, with additional leadership opportunities provided through programs such as LEAD, Youth Alive, Senior Mentor initiatives, and student voice roundtables. These opportunities continue to strengthen connections between students and the school community.

Professional development remained a strong focus as well. Staff participated in districtwide training aligned to instructional improvement priorities, including the Ruby Payne session and follow-up interdisciplinary collaboration work. PLC implementation expectations continue to be met at high rates, with strong participation and alignment to team norms.

Several strategic initiatives are still underway as part of the district’s continuous improvement process. Work continues to expand the SEL side of MTSS supports, increase participation opportunities for late enrolling students, strengthen feeder school athletic connections, and evaluate how recent professional development efforts are influencing classroom instruction. Climate survey data collected through Senior Mentor groups is also being reviewed to inform future planning.

Next steps are already in progress in preparation for the upcoming planning cycle. The district is developing a new Oiler Pride parent survey, expanding student participation tracking through Skyward activity groups, exploring youth summer athletic camp opportunities with feeder districts, strengthening teacher leadership structures through summer workshops, and continuing efforts to increase staff and student recognition through expanded success spotlights.

The Strategic Planning Team will meet again on June 10, 2026 to finalize progress on this year’s goals and establish priorities and objectives for the FY27 school year. This work ensures the district remains focused on student growth, engagement, and continuous improvement across all areas of the school experience.
