Our Vision

Engage the community in the continued renewal of our downtown business district and other economic development areas. Offering events, educational opportunities, funding options, and a social platform catered to the growth and development of Wood River. We use the Main Street Four-Point Approach to bring our vision to life. With the help of business owners and residents, we can continue the work we have started as we revitalize our downtown and make our community a thriving economic hub.

"Community is much more than belonging to something; it's about doing something together that makes belonging matter."

What is the Four-Point Approach?

The Main Street Four-Point Approach TM is a common-sense, community-driven approach to revitalizing downtowns and traditional neighborhood commercial districts. Initiated in 1980 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Main Street provides a framework for communities to address the full range of issues and challenges facing their traditional commercial districts. This Four-Point framework involves local work in the following areas:

  • Organization - creation of a well-run, sustainable non-profit organization that operates the Main Street program locally, securing the human and financial resources for operations.
  • Promotion - promoting and marketing the Main Street district through special events and festivals, business promotions, and overall image development.
  • Design - improvement of the downtown's physical environment through historic preservation, building renovation, façade improvements, public spaces, amenities, and infrastructure.
  • Economic Vitality - economic development of the Main Street district, including identification of existing and potential market opportunities, business retention, business recruitment, creation or assembly of financial assistance tools, and property development.
Transformation Strategy

Downtown Wood River stands at a pivotal moment between visible progress and untapped potential. Recent investments, new leadership, and renewed civic pride have created momentum, yet the downtown experience remains uneven. Defined as much by its enduring charm and community spirit as by the vacancies and disrepair that signal unfinished work. Residents and business owners express deep affection for the community’s small-town authenticity and friendliness, paired with a clear desire to see that pride reflected more consistently in the physical and economic life of downtown.

The conversations, data, and insights gathered through this process reveal a shared understanding: Wood River’s revitalization depends on translating local energy into visible, coordinated action. The city’s heritage, entrepreneurial character, and strong sense of belonging provide the foundation for a renewed downtown that feels walkable, welcoming, and genuinely of its place. The opportunity now is not to reinvent Wood River, but to make its best qualities more visible, connected, and celebrated.

Wood River Business Alliance (WRBA) is early in its journey implementing the Main Street Approach. There is already meaningful change in downtown. Additionally, in recent years, the City has shown a willingness to tackle complicated projects and to utilize funding and policy tools to accelerate progress. The next steps for downtown Wood River require care and focus. New entrepreneurs have yet to establish a strong foothold, and significant investment is still needed in several key historic properties.

Get Involved. Get to Work. Make an Impact.

The Wood River Business Alliance (WRBA) is looking for doers—people ready to roll up their sleeves and help move downtown forward.

Our Main Street committees are where the real work happens. This is where ideas turn into action—events get planned, buildings get improved, businesses get supported, and momentum gets built. We offer a variety of roles and time commitments, so whether you’ve got a few hours or want to dive in, there’s a place for you.

If you’re looking for more than just sitting in a meeting—if you want to actually do something—we want you on a committee.

Choose your impact:

Organization – Build a strong, sustainable WRBA by helping secure funding, grow leadership, and keep operations running smoothly.

Promotion – Bring downtown to life through events, festivals, marketing, and promotions that create buzz and draw people in.

Design – Shape the look and feel of our district through beautification, historic preservation, and improvements to public spaces.

Economic Vitality – Strengthen our business community through recruitment, retention, and smart economic development strategies.

This is your chance to be part of something bigger—and to see the results of your work right here in Wood River.
