Riverbend Axe and Games

History

Opened in 2019, as Riverbend Axe Throwing, the previous owners brought in the sport of Axe Throwing to the Riverbend area.  To expand offerings the facility was renovated in December of 2024 to add "The Yard" a 1000 Sq. Ft. indoor turf space to allow for indoor Cornhole, Washers, and anything else you might want to do with a drink in one hand!  In August 2025, Riverbend Axe Throwing was acquired by current owner Mike Berkley, and brand refreshed to Riverbend Axe and Games to highlight the multiple offerings of the venue. Mike is focused on steadily evolving the service offerings to appeal to more customers and is continually adapting Riverbend’s drink, game, and venue offerings to suit the desired interests of its customers.  Mike believes in having a positive community impact by providing an amazing space for Riverbend area families, Veterans, LEOs, and First Responders to have fun, celebrate, and make great long lasting memories.

Originally from Alton, Mike was born and raised in the Riverbend area and is proud Veteran of the United States Air Force having served twelve years   Mike graduated from Alton High, Lewis and Clark Community College, Angelo State University, and Western Governors University.  In addition to owning and operating Riverbend Axe and Games, Mike continues to serve the Department of Defense as a contractor specialized in Cyber Security.

We are located at 205 Eastgate Plaza, in the revitalized Eastgate Plaza of East Alton, IL on Route 3. Whether you're an "axe-pert" or just looking for something fun to do with friends, this is the place!  We feature a bar and lounge, Professional Cornhole Boards, Electronic Dart Boards, Pool Table, multiple big screen TV's, and multiple WATL certified throwing lanes for some axe-throwing fun or thrilling league competition!  Each Axe Throwing Lane has two targets and can accommodate up to 10 people.  Our throwing coaches will teach you everything you need to know about safely throwing axes.  This is an activity for all ability levels, we recommend ages 10+ (with parental discretion) and 18+ without parental supervision.  

​We have a BYOF (Bring Your Own Food) policy, so you bring the food and we'll provide the drinks.  We sell a good variety of adult beverages and soft drinks.  Carry your own food in or have it delivered from one of the many great restaurants nearby.  We also have relationships with several local restaurants who would love to cater for your special event.

​We are a World Axe Throwing League (WATL) affiliate and will run multiple leagues for those looking to compete in the sport of axe throwing.  By affiliating with the WATL you will have the chance to compete against other axe throwers from all over the world! 

​We also offer Weekly Cornhole leagues, Pool leagues, event space, fundraisers and we're open to other ideas!
