Honoring Our Hometown Heroes: Banner Program Now Accepting Submissions
The Wood River Business Alliance is proud to reopen for the second round of the Hometown Heroes Banner Program, a powerful way to honor and recognize the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces from our very own community.
Through this program, custom banners featuring local veterans will be displayed throughout Wood River's Main Street District, serving as a public tribute to their courage, dedication, and service. Each banner will include the veteran’s name, rank, military branch, and photo, reminding all who live in or visit our town of the real heroes who walk among us.
“We wanted to create something meaningful that not only honors our veterans, but also connects generations and inspires community pride,” said Kristen Burns, Executive Director of the Wood River Business Alliance. “These banners are more than decorations—they’re symbols of sacrifice, love of country, and the deep roots we share here in Wood River.”
How to Participate
The Wood River Business Alliance is currently accepting submissions for the second round of banners. Families, friends, or veterans themselves are encouraged to apply. Space is limited, and banners will be displayed during key times of the year such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day. If you ordered a banner in the first round please note that not all have been place due to the ongoing construction on Wood River Ave and Edwardsville Road. Once construction is complete the will be hung.
To submit a veteran for recognition, click here or find it on website under programs and events.
This program is made possible through the support of local businesses, community sponsors, and residents who believe in honoring those who have served. Proceeds from banner sponsorships will go toward maintaining the program and supporting other veterans' initiatives in the area.
Let’s come together as a community to show our gratitude and respect for those who have defended our freedom. Join us in making this program a lasting tribute to our Hometown Heroes.
